2014 – VARGUS Ltd., a world-leading manufacturer of high-quality thread cutting, grooving and deburring tools for the metals and plastics industries, is pleased to announce the expansion of the VARDEX gear milling line to include solid carbide gear milling tools for gear, spline and rack manufacturers.
The new solid carbide gear milling tools feature a small tool cutting diameter that is specially designed for applications that require cutting close to the shoulder. This multi-flute, solid carbide tooling solution further enables faster machining due the high RPM and fast feed, and guarantees superior accuracy.
The solid carbide gear milling tool range comprises a cutting diameter range from 5.9 to 19.9mm (.17-.75”) for modules from 0.5 to 2.5.
As one of many solutions part of the gear milling line, the new solid carbide gear milling tools benefit from the main advantages of the VARDEX gear milling system. This advanced system provides manufacturers with an economical and high performance solution over other methods by reducing machining cycle times by at least 50% and enabling machining of one full profile per pass.
Gear manufacturers can further slash machining and set-up times compared to HSS tooling since solid carbide tools enable machining at high cutting speeds and eliminate the need for additional grinding and shaving finishing routines. Furthermore, manufacturers no longer need dedicated machines for gears and can use conventional milling machines that operate on minimum 3.5 axis machines.
Additional advantages to the gear milling system include a longer tool life, resulting from the insert's tough sub-micron substrate and TiCN coating, as well as an improved surface finish, achieved by machining at higher cutting speeds using VARGUS' high quality tools.
